Analysis of the Relationship between Serum Magnesium Levels and Severity of COVID-19 Patients

Magnesium (Mg) plays an important role in the homeostasis functions of lungs and heart for humankind. However, there is limited information concerning importance such electrolyte mineral to COVID-19 pathogenesis. The Mg level not primarily considered analysis infectious diseases laboratory. purpose this study was analyze relationship between levels patient severity at Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital, Makassar. This research a retrospective with cross-sectional design. Samples were prepared from 186 patients. Serum measured using ABX Pentra 400C analyzer patients diagnosed then classified into abnormal normal magnesemia. Based on COVID-19, categorized severe non-severe. obtained data statistically analyzed Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, Mann-Whitney Chi-Square, odd ratio significant p <0.05. mean values serum (2.53±2.03 mg/dL) significantly different compared those non-severe (2.12±0.83 p=0.712.
